 How to create PPTP VPN connection

1. Open the Control Panel window from the menu.


2. From the Control Panel window, double-click on the icon.

3. From the Network Connections window, click Create a new connection to start the New Connection Wizard.

4. The Welcome to the New Connection Wizard will now start.

5. Select the option Connect to the network at my workplace, and click Next.

6Select the option for Virtual Private Network connection, and click Next.

7. Enter a name for your VPN Connection Name in the Company Name field, such as Acme VPN, then click Next.

8. Choose to let Windows XP VPN dial-up to the Internet automatically before connecting your PC to your Office VPN network or connect to the Internet manually. If you are using a cable-modem or ADSL service, it is best to connect manually. Click on Do not dial the initial connection and click Next.

9Enter the address of the CommGate VPN server in the space provided. The address is Your IP Address or Dynamic DNS name. When you are finished, click Next.

10. Click Finish to complete the wizard.

11. Your VPN connection will appear in the Network Connections window.

12. To open a VPN session, double-click the VPN icon called “Your VPN Name” from >> Control Panel >> Network Connections >> Your VPN Name.

13. Enter your VPN User ID in the User name field, and then enter the Password which is created for you on the CommGate Shield server. Click Connect to start the VPN session.

Note: Make sure you have a VPN user account in CommGate server.

14. As your PC initiates the VPN session, the following progress window will be displayed:

15. Once the connection has been established, an icon will appear in your system tray to indicate an active VPN session. The VPN icon in the Network Connections window will also display your VPN status.

Your taskbar on the bottom-right corner will show a VPN Network icon similar to this:

16. When are finished using the VPN connection, open the VPN status window by doubleclicking the VPN icon.

To end or terminate the session, click the Disconnect button.

 

17. Now, if you need to connect to any of the PCs which has been switched-on in the office, make sure you have the LAN IP address of the PC and you have Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection or TightVNC (www.TightVNC.com) installed and running on the PC. For details of TightVNC, refer to the documentation from the website.
